Overview

Navigating a congested site under pressure

Green Frog Power appointed RADIX to deliver the foundation works for a 30MW battery storage facility in Hirwaun, Cardiff. The project involved the installation of 18 Canadian Solar battery units and 7 SMA inverters, all mounted on RADIX EXT screw piles. The tight urban site presented multiple constraints — including unknown ground conditions, a web of underground services, and a strict four-week program tied to critical equipment delivery windows.

Solution

Precision piling around complex underground infrastructure with rapid deployment

RADIX’s early-stage input, from service plotting to pile design and installation, was key to navigating the complexity. By adapting layouts in real time to avoid existing infrastructure, RADIX maintained both safety and schedule, delivering a high-volume install with over 400 screw piles in a 4 week period.

“Program savings was what attracted us to use RADIX. Quick and efficient. A joy to work with the team.”
Tony Edwards, Green Frog Power

Screw piling proved to be the ideal solution with strict program dependencies and physical constraints, traditional foundations would have risked delays and additional groundworks. The rapid, low-impact nature of screw piling not only allowed RADIX to meet tight timelines but also resulted in measurable project savings for the client — reinforcing our method as the clear choice for fast-track energy infrastructure projects.
